This is the ONLY Kindle eBook I have ever returned; I felt the content was not worthy of even a few dollars as in my opinion I've read more in-depth information on free websites or even other book descriptions. This is my personal opinion, you may love it - I'm an IT Manager with over 30 years experience so perhaps I'm too demanding.
I have more than 15 years experience in I.T Systems and Business Management but for the last 5 years I was doing mainly hardware repair for both elementary and secondary schools when a new manager was assigned to the department. Every meeting held during the transition period, the new manager spoke about the I.T Department being compliant to the ITIL Framework. I had never heard of ITIL before but was ready to prove myself as a valuable team player. I bought two books on ITIL, ITIL For Beginners and a study guide to help prepare me to take the certification exam. However I got this book in my hands first. After reading the first two chapters only, I was able to produce a service operation plan for the department linking service functions and service processes to roles and actual responsibilities to staff members. I may be an extreme case because of all my prior experience in both business and I.T. and it is said that ITIL teaches I.T Professionals to think like businessmen. I call ITIL common sense for I.T Professionals and even without taking the certification exam as yet I am already feeling that this is one of the best books that I have ever bought. If you are serious about functioning in an ITIL compliant I.T environment buy this book, you would be glad that you did.
Perhaps it's not totally the publisher's fault, but this is the driest subject material possible. I found that reviewing the material did not make me feel like I understood the subject matter, to the extent that it was like listening to a 2.5 hour long syllabus for a college course.
I can recommend this book, since the concepts and the definitions are well explained to introduce you to ITIL, don't expect for deep explanations or detailed analysis, this is not the goal of this book. Is the best point to start if you are trying to start to path to ITIL certifications.
Provides clear explanations of ITIL terms and concepts. A good place to start. Recommended reading for experienced IT professionals who unfamiliar with ITIL.
I highly recommend reading this book before taking an ITIL Certification class and/or test. It will give you a break down and understanding of all 5 Life Cycle Stages. It really helped understand all life cycle stages and gave me a head start and expectation of what the ITIL Foundation class was going to cover. I also found the practice exams very helpful.

This one, though, is different in that it combines 'two worlds'.I've tended toward a split psychology, I guess. I was naturally drawn to see the workings of things, mechanics, physics, logic. Yet always I wanted the deeper answers as to what it was all about. To the extent that I found those answers they were found in reading and experience that was almost the diametric opposite of the physical, logical world; "In the head" vs. measurable, touchable reality. Two different things.Maybe you've heard about someone's "When I first read the Bible" or "My first meditation" sort of experience. Well, this one is more powerful than that, in that it COMBINES the core questions of existence with 'scientific', that is, actual physical/experimental, proof.I have, indeed, read a good few 'spiritually-oriented' books. My experience with them has always been that once I put them down, I am again faced with the same humdrum daily 'existence' of house, work, tromping about in that same old body, etc; 'physical reality' reasserts itself, and it's easy to feel that those deeply felt Truths I read just the other day were nothing but dreams, and 'this'
I am currently reading the author's follow-up book to "Biocentrism"..."Beyond Biocentrism"...which has not yet been released to the public. So let me say that if you are not at all familiar with the weird world of quantum physics, I think you would be best off waiting a few weeks for the release of the author's 2nd book, "Beyond Biocentrism," and reading that book first. The author spends more time describing quantum weirdness in plain English in his second book than he does in the first book.If you already know a little bit about the quantum world...(you don't need to know a lot,) you will enjoy "Biocentrism." The author has a wonderful sense of humor which adds spice to the science. In fact one of the funniest things I have read in a long time is in this book. It has to do with the Ishihara Color Test. It completely cracked me up.There are a lot of books out there now related to this subject matter, and many of them are not worth your time...just authors cashing in on the latest theory of everything. But I am careful about choosing books. And Robert Lanza is a highly respected scientist specializing in the field of stem cell research, so I trust this guy. And Lanza is also quite frank in stating that much of his thinking on this subject is pure theory...not to be confused with scientific fact.The subject matter is not exactly new, but new ideas sometimes need to hang out there in the realm of possibilities for a while before they gather momentum. I remember first hearing about the beginnings of this theory from the writings of David Bohm, winner of the Nobel Prize in physics back in the 1970s; and here it is about fifty years later and it is beginning to catch intellectual fire. If you are willing to keep an open mind, "Biocentrism" will give you lots to think about. Like ... what happens when we die? Does our consciousness stop, or does it just keep going on? Enjoy.
I have read a lot of books that deal with the nature of reality, and Robert Lanza's idea of biocentrism feels like an important piece of the whole puzzle. He dabbles in quantum physics, biology, psychology, spirituality, consciousness, relativity and tries to show how they are all interconnected, with biology being the most fundamental. In the book he lays out his seven principals of biocentrism. The first principal is "What we perceive as reality is a process that involves our consciousness....space and time are not absolute realities but rather tools of the human and animal mind." This echoes the idea put forth by Tom Campbell is his book, My Big Toe, that we are living in a virtual reality. Biocentrism and My Big Toe have a lot of similar ideas, and if you find Biocentrism educational then I would also recommend My Big Toe for a deeper exploration into the nature of reality.

About the Author
Stephen Collins was born in 1980 and grew up in south London. He began cartooning in 2003, and has since won several awards, including the Jonathan Cape/Observer Graphic Short Story Prize and the inaugural 9th Art Award. His work has appeared in many publications worldwide, including Wired, GQ, and the BBC, and he contributes regular comics to the Guardian Weekend and Prospect magazine. He lives near Hertford with his wife and a well-charged beard trimmer.

I loved this book--even more than I originally anticipated.The back blurb, title, and art made me think I was in for a lighthearted, whimsical adventure that would be every bit of fun as it was ridiculous. However, this was not that book. It's much more somber than I anticipated.True, it still has whimsy and is a bit ridiculous, but it went so much deeper than what I would've guessed from a book with such a title. Fun as it is, it has something to say about the world and does so without beating us over the head with its preaching or morals.Instead, Collins presents a fun tale--often told in rhyme--that explores the nature of our world and society. Even better, it's accompanied by gorgeous artwork. I often found myself studying a page in awe of the graceful lines and ethereal tone.It's an excellent book, no way around it. It's only too bad that the title and blurb don't fully capture the tone and depth presented here. Then again, perhaps that's another ploy for the "insides" to overpower the "outsides."
The Gigantic Beard that Was Evil is an awesome comic book. It has all those elements that make any comic to need of capitals because it has high standards regarding the quality of the Art and an unusual but poignant story.Stephen Collins has a great drawing technique that mixes naturalistic drawing, illustration an vector-like images with cartoonish characters. Everything is drawn with precise lines, very tidy even when the story gets messy, but the use of charcoal pencil gives texture, softness, chiaroscuro and warmth. I absolutely loved the framing and compositing of the vignettes and lettering, and how the text spreads organically throughout the page and the vignettes in unconventional ways.However, what makes this book special to me, is that it has that little-something that elevates any graphic book from cute and fun to excellent and timeless, and that is the story and the narrative. The book is well written, with a very concise and precise style, and takes readers into a humorous slightly Kafkaesque ride.The Gigantic Beard... is a wonderful brilliant fable about how Society and Culture react to change, differences and "the other". It shows how Society fears people who are different because, by being so, they question the values and ways of living on which the majority stands; so Society will react badly to any person who deviates from the standard behaviour, sexual orientation, gender role, or religious beliefs.At the same time, it shows how Society hates and fears any transformation that shakes its core and questions its foundations. Surprisingly enough, History proves time and time again that, once those changes occur and the interrupters provoke the change, Society will come to recognise how important their disruption and disrupters were for Society to advance; yet, Society criticised, ostracised, mocked, persecuted and/or killed those very people who were the engines of social change. Just two examples. The impressionist painters of the 19the century and the cubists and abstracts painters of the 20th century were heavily criticised, disregarded and their talent questioned, yet, they are the masters we all admire nowadays. The suffragists of the early 20th century were ridiculed, jailed and considered crazy for saying that women had a brain and were perfectly able and capable to decide and cast a vote on their own.Finally, the story also tells us that, at times, change begins with one person changing, the rest will eventually follow up.I read this book in the hard-copy edition Very good quality thick grainy paper, well bound, so one can open it without a problem, and really durable.Original, enjoyable, thought-provoking and wonderful black-and-white Art.
So I got the book today and so far what I've read seems pretty good. The problem I've had is that I purchased it from PB Sales and the front cover had a huge sticker on the front that when I pulled off it left a huge mark. For some people this wouldn't be a big deal but I'm obsessed with books and love to display them, etc. If I had known that it would be like this I wouldn't have bought it. The rating is for the business not the book.
Just amazing. Great story, brilliant artwork.The title may seem to be funny at first, but the story is not funny. The story is deep, dark, and overwhelming sometimes.Everyone who loves the meaningful books should read it even if it is going to be their first comic book.

I'm new to the world of graphic novels. I read this on my new iPad and it was such a gorgeous experience. I grew up reading Roald Dahl and watching Tim Burton and I really loved the quirky similarities. Incredible illustrations. I loved this.
