There aren't many books in English (yet) on China's space program. Brian Harvey's book ("China's Space Program") is a very well-documented recitation of events and the men (and they were always men) behind them, but it makes for dry reading. Johnson-Freese's book ("The Chinese Space Program: a mystery within a maze") is structured differently - more succinct and with summaries of major institutions - but it's nearly 10 years old and a little out of date.Handberg and Li's book is the clear winner - the single best book now available on China's space program. It's written from a comparative politics perspective, and does not China-bash nor China-cheer. It simply analyses China's space program as it is - which is not all that different than the U.S. or USSR's programs were at similar stages. China's space technologies are dual-use as they were for the two early space leaders, but China's goals for human spaceflight are mainly for economic development, S&T development, and above all, national prestige. China's path in space isn't inscrutable, and it's subject to the same political, economic, and technology development rules that apply to every other country as well.The authors lay out the basic facts within their historical context (ex. the Mao years of factional / fanatical politics; how China's commercial sector suffered in the late 90s and why; etc.) along with very incisive analysis of why programs were approved in the context of China's larger development and political goals. Their analysis is scholarly, neutral, and free of scary propaganda designed to advance certain political agendas in the West (but it doesn't sugarcoat China either).This book is already four years old, and I hope the authors think about doing a revised edition. It is not cheap (I don't know why they don't do a paperback reissue), but if you are interested in China's ambitions in space, this is definitely the book to get. It's worth the money.
Roger Handberg and Zhen Li have created a gem in the writing of Chinese Space Policy: A Study in Domestic and International Politics (20007). This excellent book is worthy of the price. Nonetheless, it would be even better in a paperback, updated 2nd edition accompanied by an audio CD option each priced at under $50 so more people will benefit from the understanding of what these two authors provide in placing the contemporary Chinese space program in proper context. And moreover, this book hits the mark in placing the now equal and capable Chinese human space power in the correct policy analysis. It is worthy of a lower priced second edition and the well-read audio edition.The flowing 173 page text would be made even more the worthy product with ten-to-20 pages of glossy photographs to assist the reader in visualizing the written word. Yet those with some international media awareness will get the mental picture from the excellent description of historic and cotemporary Chinese space and technology policy development.This would be one of the books that I would hope that my US Congressman and two US Senators would read prior to voting on space policy issues. It is a book that I would also hope the President's Science and National Security Advisors would have read in the first month of publisher print.Every modern civil, commercial and military space launch leader should know of this book and elect to read it. Handberg and Li have unique insight based upon their well researched, referenced and footnoted book. Every American space industry leader needs to fully digest the text. In my judgment, Chinese Space Policy: A Study in Domestic and International Politics, is an essential reading guide to all-levels of American decision makers facing complex future policy decisions that must be made correctly. Emphasis is on 'made correctly' and not only for America's sake but for the hope that may be afforded all mankind in the second Space Age.As someone who holds a M.S. in space policy, a M.A. in political science, and a J.D. in law as well as having trekked across China, the Handberg and Li book was instructive. It is my hope that the authors would appear on The Space Show with Dr. David Livingston to promote this book, or better yet, a second edition (with my foregoing suggestions, of course). An appearence on The Space Show would give more potentially interested readers the chance to have this important policy knowledge as we advance into the 21st Century.

I just read today that Thomas Berger, one of the few truly great American novelists of the 20th Century, passed away on July, 21, 2014, at the age of 89.In the report of his death, the NYT wrote of this novel, "He ventured into science fiction (and Middle American sexual fantasy) with 'Adventures of the Artificial Woman' (2004); utopian fiction with 'Regiment of Women' (1973), in which men have surrendered their grip on the world..."If Thomas Berger is in Heaven today, I'm sure he had a laugh at that. The world of "Regiment of Women" is no utopia, the rule of women is no more benign or benevolent than that of men, and maybe that is Berger's point. But it isn't. The novel isn't political, it isn't about and has nothing to do with Feminism, it has no point to teach. There is nothing about how or why 'men surrendered their [evil] grip on the world'.What the novel is is:-science fiction (as are "Changing the Past", "Being Invisible", and several of his other novels); it asks 'What if?' and provides an entertaining and provocative answer-a portrayal of the human condition and how we might see it more truly if we tilted it into comedy and looked at it reflected in a fun house mirror-literature, the English language used as almost no one writing today can use it-hilariousAnd, unfortunately, it is a little dated, given all the gender switching which has been going on in reality in the decades since the novel was written.But if you have a taste for the English language used with gorgeous perfection, try this novel. And if you like it, I suggest that you next read Berger's "Robert Crews", the two seem to work very well as a pair.
A real gender bender. I recommend Berger for almost all of his novels. The best is Little Big Man.
The images in this book are stunningly beautiful, and the back story of John White is heart-breaking. A happy addition to my bookshelf
I had opportunity to see the breathtaking originals of John White's drawings, in a low-light, time-limited, rare exhibit in London.Whereas any reprinted images, viewed at leisure in good light cannot capture the almost-sacred quality of the originals, the color ones in "America 1585, The Complete Drawings of John White", are extraoidinary; the black-and white ones--good but not so moving. To think that the 1585 expedition to the New World had an official artist, the photo-journalist of the day, and we can see his work nearly four and a half centuries later, fills the reader/viewer with wonder and an appreciation of history impossible to glean from normal study.
This book provides valuable and historic information on African Americans in the entertainment industry (primarily film and television). Sought out in researching Gordon Parks, I found the book less useful for any depth of information on Mr. Parks but excellent in its introduction and overview. Particularly satisfying was the book's spotlight on the less known facts and challenges that faced and continue to face African Americans in film and television.

This novel demonstrates the importance for all men to have a working relationship with their regenerative organs. The dystopia Berger describes is a hilarious and terrifying societal order where biology is given the same treatment as all young boys having their cherries popped by lecherous women on the prowl for hot boy meat. All the inversions are great: gender roles are reversed, boys wear silly little underthings, blush, fret over the color of their toenails, bitch like drag queens, and girls are raised to be tough, mean, and aggressive. Girls play with guns, join the army, kill people. Boys play with their Kitty Carry-All dollies, and are prized for their pretty features and gaity. But apparantly all the boys grow up straight. Homosexuality is something of a myth. Buggery, however, is all too real.The upshot of all this is a society where women rule everything. But they can only do so because they've ostensibly created a system that denies a man a working relationship with his "original" tool. Boys never learn what their willies are FOR. They are told a pack of lies about sex. They grow up hating their organ and its hideous accomplices. If they complain too loudly, they are frequently threatened with the knife. There are plenty of eunichs around to serve as examples of what the wrong attitude can mean for a boy.The women of this world have only taken on the superficial characterists of men. Still, they aren't men. They are as much parodies of men as the men are of women. They must use dildos on their boy-slaves in order to luxuriate in their absolute domination of them. Sex is presented as power. Specifically, the penis is power. Women, no matter what they do to attempt to mimic stereotypical masculinity--will never have the true psychological advantage that is manifested through a synchronicity between the male's brain and his red headed stranger.Of course, feminists can tear this book to shreds. It would probably be a whole lot of fun, actually. It totally mocks feminism with an unrestrained glee. However, it clearly celebrates liberation for both men and women--a return to the biological imperatives that each human in instilled with at birth. The horrorshow presented in this book is an illustration of the folly of any attempt to subvert nature and create a [wo]man-made utopia that can only be sustained through treachery and callous, hateful deceit. Nevertheless, our own world has certainly subjugated whole sets of peoples for various reasons throughout history. So much that is in this book is most powerful because it rings so true.
Original in its telling if not in its conception. This book is about 25-30-years old, but is still highly readable. Berger, in another book, had a character say that as long as women want to be men, judge their lot by comparing themselves with men, they'll get no sympathy from him, and that about sums up the theme of this highly inventive comic novel. At the end, when the man and woman have real sex, the first time she is on top, the second time he is: "If he was going to be builder and killer, he could be boss once in a while. Also, he was the one with the protuberant organ." The book ends with an inscription by Nietzsche that is ambiguously telling: "Woman was God's second mistake."

The map is confusing. The map provided by the rental agency was lot more useful.Besides the point, please trust me on this, before spending money on this.1) The island is too small. You will spend most of the time traveling in L.G. Smith road - That's it.2) If you go off road, please use a compass in your phone or so - That is more useful than a map.3) No matter how good this map is, this is of no use. The reason is that, there are NO directions, boards, indicators on the roads to tell you where you are. There is no way to locate yourself and position you in this map - and make driving decisions while moving.So, net net, you do not need such expensive maps to travel in Aruba.
The map was very helpful and worth purchasing in advance of a cruise port day in Aruba. I rented a car and used the map to navigate the island. Although they are few street signs, with the map I was able to figure out which way to go. This is one of the few southern Caribbean islands I would drive on myself; it was easy and the map made it easier.
I have purchased several maps of Aruba over the last 20 years. This is the best by far. If you are planning to visit Aruba and you want to rent a car and drive around (rather than sit in the hotel or on the beach) this is the map for you. Understand that Aruba roads are generally unmarked. For many years, my wife and I just drove in the general direction of where we wanted to go, and hoped for the best. With this map, you can actually find the road you want.
Going to Aruba in a few weeks and purchased this on the advice of Charles Smith's free online e-booklet, "How to Enjoy Aruba" (<- which I HIGHLY recommend you read if you are a first time traveler to the island). This map seems to be quite thorough and durable. I am renting a car and have never been to the island and feel fairly confident I'll make out just fine using this map. I don't think you'll regret purchasing this!
This is a great map to get your bearings on the island. The only problem is that although the map has tons of street names on it, few streets on the island are clearly marked, which kind of makes a map less useful. But the map itself is fantastic!
It is a pretty good map. The problem u run into is that most streets are not marked.I found it really useful by using my I pad to pull up a resteraunt or someplace else that I wanted to visit, then finding that location on the map.It was handy to have. The maps you get with the car rental are ok but this map is considerably better. I would buy another one and recommend this one to a friend .
Used this map for the week in Aurba. Although reading street signs on the island is tough, the map was helpful in getting us around. Our dive master gave us the one day tour by writing how to go around on our map, this was a great way to see the island. Hit all the best sites, recommended by a local. Woohoo!

About the Author
Tom Flores has spent more than fifty-five years in the NFL in various capacities. He played for the Oakland Raiders from 1960 to 1966, the Buffalo Bills (1967–68), and the Kansas City Chiefs (1969–70). He was an assistant coach for eight years and then was head coach of the Raiders from 1979 to 1987. He compiled a regular season record of 83-53-0 and led the Raiders to two Super Bowl championships. The 2017 season marks his twenty-first as a broadcaster on the Raiders Radio Network. He was nominated for the National Football Hall of Fame in 2001. Tom and his wife Barbara have twin sons, Mark and Scott, a daughter, Kim, and five grandchildren. Matt Fulksstarted his journalism career while attending Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, when his baseball career was cut short due to a lack of ability. Pros: Love that the flap is felt, it can withstand my 10 month olds inherent need to bend things every which way. Cute and boldly colorful illustrations, repetitive phrases makes it an easy read and will be helpful when we eventually start teaching how to readCons: I wish there were more pages, it's a VERY short book, no story line (more like a peek a boo type), I was disappointed the most of the "mirror" at the end. It was so warped that it was like looking into a fun house mirror, ended up being sort of creepy even.
Absolutely must have for babies. Unlike other lift the flap books, this one has felt flaps which are soft for little fingers. My baby adores this book! I bought where is the giraffe from a store and he loved it so much that I bought this one from amazon. Full of bright colors, whimsical characters, and a mirror on the back it is a great activity for babies. I bought the first one when he was 6 months he is 9 now and he is still interested.
My nephew loves this book. Now that he can read it on his own; he takes it everywhere. He found the book at the library. After seeing how much he loved it, and 2 renewals later, I went to Amazon to purchase it.
My 18 month old loves this felt flap book. She carries it around and "reads" it to her siblings.
My 15 month old is obsessed with this book. It’s short and sweet and she loves to fold the felt down to see the hidden animals.
My kid loves grabbing the flaps. These were some of the first books he liked having read to him because he could participate. The fabric flaps are also easier to grab and don't tear like paper flaps.

This is a very informative book! My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes and what a shock! I had no idea how to cook differently so my husband would be happy with a restricted diet! This book is very informative and helps a newly diagnosed person understand how to look at food differently. It gives you the recipes helps you make a meal plan and what you need to get from the market to make the food for a week at a time! This has really helped me! I love the book and I can’t wait to start the meal planning and make the proper foods my husband can enjoy and not feel like his meals are restricted!

I've recently had to make a lot of changes to my diet due to medical issues. I'm not diabetic, but the diet I need to follow is very close to the diet someone who is diabetic should be following, so I decided to give this book a try. While it's portioned for two people I double the recipes as there are three of us and my husband eats a lot.It's really important to me that I be able to provide meals that meet my medical needs, but still taste good for my family. There are 126 recipes in this book and I would say I can easily make half of these for my family without feeling like I am sacrificing taste. My absolutely favorite recipes are the comfort classics. They're are a lot of great recipes that taste delicious, and just put a healthy spin on some of our favorite family recipes.Some of the recipes are a little much for me, not really my type of food, but there are more than enough recipes to make this book worth it for me. There are also some delicious desserts that I'm really looking forward to trying out.I received this book for free in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.
The portions are actually quite generous here, and the use of lots of different spices make the recipes very tasty and not so monotonous. I just enjoyed sitting down and reading through at first, then went back and "bookmarked" (Kindle Gal here....) the ones I want to use first. My faves are the "packet meals" and all the yummy roasted veggie recipes. I have a veggie-hater in my house. ("I don't eat green food!!") But we're both gobbling up the roasted veggies from this book. I highly recommend it.
This book isn't just a cookbook, it's also a guidebook on how to manage diabetes through diet. I don't currently have diabetes, but I'm prediabetic, and so I'm concerned with how I can change my diet to reduce my chances of becoming diabetic while also improving my overall health. The recipes in the book aren't too committed, and since they're "for two" they are great for singles and couples, but most are easily doubled for families. But what I really liked were the lists. For example, the "Top 10 Ingredients" to have on hand is a super handy tool, because what I really need from my cookbooks is something that will make shopping and cooking easier, especially when it's new. So not only does this book have recipes that help you manage diabetes with diet, but it also helps you to always be prepared to make a diabetic-friendly meal even if you aren't following a recipe, which is much more useful in all honesty. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'm excited to keep trying the recipes and discover more gems in the book. I received this book for review.
I loved this Diabetic Cookbook for two. I found it very informative especially for someone who has just found out they have diabetes. Whether you are type 1 diabetic or type 2 diabetic one of the major changes you will have to do is change the way you eat. Many people think that because you have diabetes you have to stop eating good, that is not the case. This book has many delicious recipes that will leave you feeling full and not feeling like you have to eat anything that tastes disgusting.I have several family members who are diabetic and picky children so getting dinner that everyone could enjoy could sometimes be quite tricky. One of my favorite meals in this book that my children liked as well as my diabetic family members was the Chicken Parmesan. The prep time only takes 30 minutes and the cook time was about an hour which was perfect for my busy schedule. Another great recipe to check out is the Lemon-Herb chicken. The lemon-herb chicken was also another winning meal in my house. The kids had no idea that they were eating a healthy meal and my aunt and uncle were able to enjoy the meal without having to substitute any of the meal or have to go and make their own meal. The conversion table at the back of the book is very helpful too. I was provided this book for review purposes.

I am 85 years old and sent this to my now 6 year old granddaughter. My son sent me a video of her readingthe last poem in the book which I memorized long ago. I would never have believed that this could ever bepossible, but am grateful to everyone who helped to make it happen. Thank you.
This is a lovely keepsake-quality book with all the illustrations those of previous generations remember with affection. I was disappointed, however, to find these "complete tales" did not include the teddy bear poems from Milne's "When We Were Very Young", my own introduction to Pooh over 80 years ago.
I bought this sweet book for myself, because I am simply smitten with the gentleness and kindness that is so commonly illustrated in its pages. I know it is supposed to be for children, but there is plenty for adults to learn, if they care to. I love this book!
It is a great story and book for children. Unfortunately the book presented for sale is not what you receive. The book for sale is a special addition that is printed in the USA. The one you receive is not the special addition and it is printed in China. The ad and preview for this book is misleading.
Is not as shown in pictures, what I receive is in black and white it doesn’t have images in Color, so not as shown in the “look inside part†be careful if you are looking for a nice book with colored images, this will disappoint you :(
Like pretty much everyone else in the world I'd heard of WINNIE-THE-POOH. I'd even seen a lot of the TV shows and movies (a friend of mine actually wrote some of the TV shows for Disney). But it wasn't until I watched GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN that I became interested in reading the books. I am so very glad I did.I've only read the first one so far, and, as expected, it is a wonderful children's story; but what I didn't realize was how uniquely well-written it is. Admittedly the opening caught me off-guard and I had to re-read it twice to understand the point-of-view, but once I realized what Mr. Milne was doing, I loved it.Yes, the storytelling is simplistic. Mr. Milne is obviously writing for a very young audience. This makes his style entirely appropriate, plus his ability to tell his story from the standpoint of a child is amazing. But it is his characters that make WINNIE work most of all. They are brilliantly childlike and likable.Kudos, Mr. Milne. WINNIE-THE-POOH is a wonderful accomplishment, and deserves all of its accolades. I have no doubt it will still be around in another hundred years.
Book came quickly despite the crazy weather. I purchased this for my 3yo nephew knowing that I read and loved the stories when I was small. I hope that he finds the stories as entrancing as I did. The book is beautiful, and has the updated dust cover art shown on the main image. Pages are heavyweight and have high quality printing and the hard cover came unblemished and undamaged from shipping. Pooh is embossed in gold on the light blue cover. Will buy again once my other nephew is a little older.
When I went away to college many years ago, my mother loaned my "Winnie-the-Pooh"—received on my fifth birthday—to a young co-worker to read to her children. It was never returned. I have been mourning ever since! The fact that this book had everything the original had, except the hardback cover, made it irresistible. I bought it! It did not disappoint. I saw the same dear pictures of the same beloved Pooh in the well-remembered interesting situations with his unique take on matters and his same friends and his companion, Christopher Robin. The book now has joined its mate, "The House at Pooh Corner." My bookcase is no longer missing something. Get this book and read it to your children or give it to them to read, as my mother did me. It cannot be replaced by the Disney Pooh. That Pooh is a whole different animal...trust me. Oh, and lend it to NO ONE. Get them one of their own!
