Just an FYI for purchasers... Be aware that Fourth Edition CD ROM (and I assume all earlier versions) will NOT run on Mac O SX. The documents contained within were set up for Windows PC or as a Mac .osx extension. Mac NO LONGER supports file extensions in .osx! If you have earlier editions you will not have full access to the CD ROM portions of the text. The videos however will work.In addition If you decide to supplement the Fourth Edition and want to save money by purchasing the Fifth Edition in Kindle format; the Kindle format DOES NOT include the CD ROM portions of the book.
Bought this book for part of my massage program. It's laid out in an easy-to-follow format. It gives you the option to either read a short synopsis of key information about each disease, which is presented in small, blue text boxes throughout each chapter (great if you're making flashcards); or you have the option to read a more in-depth section about each disease. Puts the information in the context of massage therapy and discusses the risks and benefits of each disease in terms of massage. Very important information for a future/LMT to have and I'd highly recommend checking it out.
This was a class textbook for my massage course. I am definitely going to keep this book around after I get my license. Very useful and informative. It covers most of the major things one would encounter as a massage therapist and how to handle those situations.
Outstanding insight to pathology from a massage therapist’s perspective.
As a massage therapy student and the partner of a physician, I have unique opportunity to run a lot of topics discussed in this book past a knowledgeable source. While certainly not an authoritative medical text, it is a concise, easy to understand and well organized book that belongs on the shelf of every massage therapist. The one item that is sorely lacking is any bibliography. Even some basic references for those seeking clarification or more information would be a great addition. My other suggestion would be to include a pictorial guide to common skin conditions. As therapists we often encounter skin pathologies that we are not familiar with. While of course we can not diagnose, this addition would be helpful for those concerned with the appropriateness of massage for a particular client or the possibility of being exposed to a contagious pathogen.
The pathologies are NOT INCLUDED IN THE INDEX. This is completely counterintuitive. Instead, the pathologies are listed somewhere in the front (and only there). I still don't understand how a publisher can print a book with an index that excludes the most essential content. Encephalopathy is in the index. Encephalitis is not. I have to go to the front of the book for that to find the page number. It defies logic.Many of the pathologies included don't make much sense where they are (ie, scleroderma is listed as a muskuloskeletal disease). The "in brief" sidebar of whether massage is indicated or contraindicated is a great idea, but is overly verbose and complex. A simplified "at a glance" format would be much easier for learning and understanding.
This is an incredibly useful reference. However, the electronic version is a pain to use, and totally misses most of the opportunities that an e-book should offer. Some examples:- No page numbers, only "Locations," and some TEN THOUSAND of them, which don't correlate to anything. Totally useless.- The index just lists words. No "Locations," no hyperlink (which would be the obvious beautiful e-feature), nothing. It's a useless list of what's in the book, with no help as to where to find it. It's the anti-index. Bonkers.- Table of contents, almost as useless. Hyperlinked, but way too general to zip to the desired topic....assuming you already KNOW what section the pathology is categorized under.- There are videos cited which appear to be hyperlinked...but they're not actually, so you can't click and watch them.- The captions for the illustrations are not "grouped" with the illustrations, so the captions will often appear on a different page. Dumb.Essentially, to look up a specific pathology or topic, you are forced to enter keywords in the Search, wait as it searches and shows EVERY CITATION of the word appears, and hunt through for the one citation you need. In desperation I started to laboriously highlight and bookmark the topic sections I study, in order to make my own sort of index. CRAZY!E-book technology offers lots of opportunities to amp up the usability and beauty of a reference like this one. All that potential, wasted and worse here.If I were Ruth Werner, I would be screaming bloody hell at the fools who have made her well-researched, respected handbook into such a clumsy dinosaur of an e-book.
Well organized and concise. Many pathologies are discussed. The author get straight to the point without a lot of excess wordiness. This is very useful for Massage Therapist. I also like that she has shown photos of so many skin diseases, both contagious and non. You never know what someone will present with on your table, it is nice to be able to identify what is going on with their skin....especially if it's contagious. Also, every pathology has complete indications and contraindications listed.

I am a cookbook junkie. I have cookbooks that are old, new, focused on one ingredient, focused on style, etc. I have never had a cookbook that I love this much. It tells a story, Renee's story, and her ongoing relationship with food making mundane ingredients delightful, making exquisite meals possible.I absolutely love the focus on Seasonal - without being preachy or pretentious.It feels personal, it makes the meals attainable and it's gorgeous. Excellent.I was waiting, counting days, for this book and it has exceeded my expectations.
Originally I bought the book because I liked the illustrations on the cover (I'm a sucker for whales) and had heard of Renee Erickson's restaurants having a focus on seafood which I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of but willing to give it a try.LOVE THE BOOK!This is not just a cookbook and it's not just about seafood. It reads like an autobiography of the chef herself, shaped by the people (had to read the story about the illustrator of the cover) and the seasonal influences of the ingredients. The book gives you a whole meal menu from start to finish plus I love the seasonal ingredient highlights like blackberries plus three easy recipes for blackberries. This is definitely going on my favorite cookbook shelf along with Ina, Julia and my mom's handwritten cookbook.
This book is super classy and beautiful to look at. Most of the recipes are a little involved, so I don't think I'll pull it out on a weeknight, but definitely looking forward to playing with it when I have more time (still waiting!).

Teal Swan is prolific. From her detailed blog posts, to her professional videos, to her in-person workshops, Teal is astonishing. Unfortunately, her books are (in my opinion) her weakest point. While the content is great, and will be a huge wake-up call for anyone who takes the time to sit with her words, there are a number of less-than-great aspects to Teal's books versus her other works. Here's a breakdown:Teal's Videos versus Teal's Books1. Teal's videos go into more details, more examples, and contain visual aids.2. Teal's videos span more subjects and cross reference each other effectively.3. Teal's spoken voice is beautiful to listen to.4. Teal's face is beautiful to watch.5. As a professional editor, and author myself, I have to say . . . Teal's writing is often awkward. She is prone to run-on sentences. She doesn't seem to have a professional editor, as there are obvious issues such as the words be aligned to the "right" instead of "full" which I've literally never seen in a published book. She has periods on the outside of quotations instead of the inside. She has sentences which have to be re-read several times before you understand what is being said due to the lack of appropriate commas. Where there ought to be dashes there appears to be hyphens, although it is hard to tell due to the font which is creating a character slightly longer than the average hyphen, but clearly too short to be a proper dash. I haven't noticed any spelling errors in The Anatomy of Loneliness or her other books, but the punctuation errors and formatting errors are frustrating for me.I say this as a serious Teal fan. I have her tarot deck (which is actually an oracle deck), and I subscribe to premium. I watch all of her workshops, daily update videos, and her weekly Ask Teal video series. I have even made a spreadsheet of her entire Ask Teal series. She is an incredible inspiration. She has very valuable knowledge.I still recommend this book despite the errors, but I seriously hope Teal's team ensures she gets a good editor before she releases any further books. (They could ask me; I'd love to be the first one to read her work and be involved in the book-creation process with her!) I would hate for anyone to take her less seriously because of stupid formatting/punctuation rules which are not intuitive. I fought against a lot of the "rules" when I was first learning them, as some truly aren't logical . . . But I digress.***Here's my point: If you are not an avid reader, don't enjoy reading, get confused easily by long sentences, or prefer videos, then subscribe to Teal's premium and get access to all her online workshops and bonus content there. If, on the other hand, you are not into videos and prefer to learn while snuggled up in your favorite reading chair, buy Teal's books.***For best results, I recommend pausing the video or putting down the book whenever she asks a probing question and either (1) writing down your answers, or (2) having a discussion about your answers with someone else. You'll get a lot more out of her work if you actually do your part and take it in!Side note about her other books: If you're wondering about how The Anatomy of Loneliness compares to Teal's other books, here's the scoop. Teal's first couple of books, The Sculptor in the Sky and Shadows before Dawn, have a very different tone and flow than Teal's two newer books. The first one is the most spiritual. The second one is a little more personal to Teal, but it doesn't go into nearly as much detail about her personal life as her blog posts and interviews; it does have a lot of advice, but again, if you prefer videos, she says all the same stuff (only better) in her videos. The third, however, The Completion Process, is a very valuable guide to a process that Teal invented to delve into your shadows and create healing. So I literally recommend her books in reverse publication order, with The Anatomy of Loneliness being the best, and The Completion Process being second, and so on.Side note about my experience reading her books as someone who follows all of her online work: I do notice that reading the same stuff I've already heard often strikes me entirely differently. I have been a professional involved in "working" with others and until Teal I did not see how much I wanted and needed to "work" with who I am. Fasten your seat belt and ride with Teal! Love what she represents to all others and me.
I wish I could hand out this book to everyone on a street corner! Because we live in a highly fragmented world, loneliness has become an epidemic. It is the single biggest disease we as a collective humanity face today. This read gave me a powerful understanding as to WHY loneliness develops and how it evolves. Additionally, there are sound tools offered for finding your way back to connection. I can't imagine reading this book once. I know I will return to it again and again, each time gaining greater wisdom and understanding. A MUST read!
This book is well written and very comprehensive. When reading other books or articles that include heavy topics and philosophical ideas, I often find myself needing to reread several lines, paragraphs, or even entire chapters for me to fully grasp the authors main points and ideas. In this book however, so far I have not had any issues. The information is deep and thoughtful but not ambiguous or difficult to understand. And because of the context of this book, like finding connection and understanding loneliness, I find it does an effective job to relay this information to the readers in an easy to understand way.I haven't finished the book yet, but I will be editing this one later to give my final thoughts. So far, I think that Teals understanding of loneliness and disconnection is out of this world, and her perspective on it is something I have never seen before, but is really opening my eyes. I can see how badly this world needs connection.
This book is a game changer. Major. There is so much space between us all and Teal explains in detail how we came to be so distant and how we have pushed connection away from ourselves. She gives historical examples to link us into the present. This book is a straightforward and innovative guide on understanding the root of our dysfunction and offers multiple solutions that we can tailor to our own beliefs.

I bought this book and its companion "Understanding the FFT" to add to my basic knowledge of Fourier transforms. I need to know how to implement FTs and so far these books have been a better reference for this than any of the others I've read. Aquiring this practical understanding has been made much easier. I own both the Understanding the FFT volume and its companion, Understanding FFT Applications. They have their place on my technical bookshelf. If you are new to the FFT, or just so-so with undergrad level engineering math, then this series of volumes on the FFT is likely to prove a gold mine. If you eventually tire of being taught by example at a sometimes slow and tedious pace after you are exposed to the basics, look elsewhere.The complete titles of the books say it all. They are tutorials for laymen, students, technicians and working engineers. They are NOT sophisticated. If you are seeking enough understanding to grasp some fundamentals by example they can be highly recommended as a place to start.Unfortunately, despite its strengths, the series feeds into the "this is all you have to know if you are a practical person" mentality frequently expressed by many I've met in the technical areas. The ideas of "practical and useful" should always be qualified by the terms "for what and to whom". It all depends on who you are and what you are trying to do.It is true that sometimes it is better to cut to the heart of the matter with simplistic approaches, but challenging problems are not all reducible to these kinds of "seat of the pants" approaches. The trick is knowing when to "hold or fold". Sometimes it is actually more "practical" to acquire a more sohpisticated approach to a subject, as it saves huge amounts of time and effort later on, and can provide insights that are not initially obvious.Fourier transforms are a sophisticated mathematical tool with broad applications frequently found in areas where analysis of complex data sets is important. They are not just "tools for the working engineer". If you are serious about mastering them, you must spend the time and effort.This series is a good place to start, it is hardly the final definitive text, even for the working technical person who wants a powerful understanding of the subject. If you want some good powerful intros to the subject at a more advanced level, just look at the Bibliography of Understanding the FFT.

I think, it's a very good source for working with - it's straightforward for those, who will do their own processes with every type of micro or pc. I rate this book with all stars.

I bought the Quick & Easy Tarot to learn how to read the cards and do readings online. This was about a year ago. I must say that it has helped me out tremendously. I am doing readings online and people are giving me great reviews. There are 78 cards total in the deck and each card has 2 meanings written on the card for you to read. I haven't memorized all the meanings in a year but I have noticed that I recognize some cards and know if it's a good card or a bad card. The pictures on the cards are also helpful to read. I make my own personal interpretations after reading the meaning of the card. Mostly on my readings I draw 2 cards. Sometimes for a longer reading I draw 3. They work. I would like to add that I bought a 2 inch alexandrite crystal ball from amazon and it goes very well with my readings. I gave it a good review as well. I use the tarot cards and the crystal ball to get the best results possible in readings. I know these two items would be far more expensive if I purchased them both at a specialty shop. Thank you Amazon!
This set is a must buy when you are first starting out. The card meanings and answers are written out right on each card. Also includes card reading layouts. I make all my students get them first then work up to a non learning set.
Great Cards for a beginner, I also use them when doing professional readings so clients can see the meanings themselves and together we can often figure out more accurate and deeper gudiance that way! Also builds trust as they can see the meanings themselves and know I'm not making up what they want to hear etc.
I love these cards and have used them for years until my set disappeared. These are beautifully illustrated and very clear to read the meaning on the card but I had to give 3 stars because my package arrived in a bubble envelope and the box was open and damaged to the point it won't stay shut. Other than that I love the cards but they could have been bent or damaged. Please box for your future customer shipments.

I like the illustrations on these cards. I got them because I have gotten back into reading Tarot after having not done it for 12 years. I am one that believes in the cards, shuffling, and feeling their energy when reading someone. Many 'tarot readers' today use the internet to look up card meanings, and fake shuffle cards when reading over the phone.I got these so I could have a refresher on card meanings. I am glad that I started reading again before deciding to buy these, though. The definitions on the cards are very literal, and without using my own intuition, these cards would throw my reading off. I tried doing one last night using the definitions on the cards exclusively. The reading was horrible. Nothing made any sense.Not saying that the definitions are inaccurate, however they don't address symbolism. They really are very 'literal', so if you aren't familiar with the cards and meanings behind the numbers or the suites, you won't be able to accurately read your subject.That being said, the detail given on the card definition is interesting to say the least. I would also say that the in depth explanations have added another layer of knowledge and understanding that I didn't possess before.As commented on earlier, the illustrations on these cards are very beautiful, a much softer tarot. That being said, the pictures don't take away from the card's meaning. The definitions are made much clearer if you study the illustration as it relates to the definition. It's like two halves of a puzzle and you don't see the full picture until everything is in place.I have only done one practice reading with these cards, I found that it took me twice al long because I felt as if I needed to refer to an alternate source before deciding what part of the subject's spread was literal and what part was being referred to as an allegory. I found myself confused and second guessing what I was seeing in the cards.I have not decided whether I will keep this deck or not. I cannot use it in a reading until I commit all the definitions to memory and am able to easily reconcile what I feel with what I know.
I got these simply because I wished they had something like this when I started reading tarot. I may not always agree with the interpretation on the cards, but at least it is a good starting point. I would definitely recommend these for any beginner. Good card stock too.
Nice for beginners. I'm not a fan of the backing and the pictues are quite small, but it does what it claims to do. Sort of like tarot cards and flash cards all rolled into one. It's great if you are just starting out and trying to memorize all the various meanings. I do find some of the card descriptions are vague and leave out important main themes of the cards. But that's all in the option of the reader. ;) perfect deck for anyone just staring out in tarot.
