This is the best book I have every read on addiction and Christian Recovery! It has changed my life and world view. I have let my 'addiction' define me. It is who I was not who I am- now. That is not denial but delivery! I will always wrestle with this 'thorn in my flesh' but it doesn't have to beat me! Thank you and God Bless you Mark Shaw!!!
Much needed book amidst all the clinical solutions.
This is a tough love book. It really came in my life at a time when I needed some true words. The Lord had made it very clear our road together was blocked at that long established idolotrous behavior. I was painfully living outside God's will and did not think I could have a life without getting high on wine as a daily escape. I was wrong! I read this book in July 2010 and began to really take the sin seriously and seeked help after 40 years of denial. Through much upheaval and prophetic words from my Beloved,I took His hand. He told me to "ride on the handlebars. He knew the destination". I had no other choice but to trust and honor Him and oh! what glory and promise He has shown me. Dr. Shaw's advice to "quit for 6 months" motivated me. He emphasized "I would not die"! And I have not. I am ALIVE!"Greater is the power of the work of the resurrected Christ within us than the power of any sin no matter how long established in our lives." Romans 6:4,5,11Thank you Dr. Shaw for speaking your revelation for others.My will has been splintered and the freedom is dazzling. I am doing the workbook now with a Christian counselor.
Great Biblical series of books on addiction.
We all struggle with one addiction or another. I was asked to mentor those in drug court, and thought that this would be very useful to prepare me. Instead, I found it helpful to me and confronting my addiction to sugar, and the reality of Candida. Excellent book on addiction from a Biblical perspective (for me, the only perspective) for anyone.

I read this book at a time in my life when it felt like the whole world was against me. I was going through a divorce, there were multiple layoffs at my job(including a close friend that I convinced to come work with me) and I had just had a huge amount of workload dumped on me with no extra pay. I very quickly fell into a victim cycle. This book helped me to See how I controlled my own destiny. By taking accountability into my own hands I was motivated to not let anyone or any event deny me from being successful. After reading this book and making a commitment to always strive to be above the line I was able to get a promotion, move on from my failed marriage, improve my health and complete my first Marathon and help others be successful in their own way. Many reviewers have degrade this book as corporate nonsense to make the employees take the blame. I won't deny that probably is the case in several companies, however, there are great lessons in this book that helped me realize that blaming corporate gets me nowhere. My actions have the ability to improve my situation, but rarely does playing the blame game ever produce desired results.
The book is very repetitive. Some examples do not add to enforcement of the content. Rather than repeatedly starting the altered names of clients to protect their privacy, it would be more effective to just use variables such as x company to denote pseudo names.The entire book can be summarized into a much smaller volume. It is, after all, a book on principles that does not give specific how-to guides.
Some people buy into this type of book. I am not one of them. I had to read it for work and found it elementary and extremely boring. Common sense ideas that are not revolutionary.
The principles this book teaches are easy to understand and very usable for any manager. The analogies are well written too.
It has a good perspective. It is a little heavy in examples for me personally. They could cut a few examples and save some pages. I will say they have good real examples, just a lot of them.
The print version has much more information and many, many more "real life examples", but the topics of each chapter are covered in this audio. If you're taking your own initiative and really want to learn something, then I recommend reading the book. If the book is required reading & you hate to read, but need enough information to get through a few corporate meetings, then this audio will probably do the trick.
This book is helpful not only in your work life but applying these principles in all aspects of life. I loved this book.
This book helped me reflect on my life. It helped me to think about certain life changing situations where I choose accountability over victimization and vice versa. The book helped me to understand there is a fine line between the two and its a normal struggle to hold yourself accountable. This book has really gave me some insight that I will use at this junction in my life (and in the future) to make new strategic personal goals.

I really appreciate the cautionary tale. So much of what I do has a huge impact, so I'm always grateful for the Frank observations of other nurses. If I find just one bit of info, that can help me do my job better and ultimately keep my patients safe it means so much to me. This book is FILLED with tips and useful insights. This author is just the kind of nurse I love working with: generous, honest, caring and has a great sense of humor.
not much useful information here, a lot of common sense stuff. would be good for someone with absolutely no experience but most home health nurses or field nurses are not new grads with no experience. it's okay, I didn't need it which of course I didn't realize until after I'd read it. might be a good resource for someone else, though
I'm only part-way through, but this short book is easily the best nursing text I have ever read. Full of humor, bitingly accurate commentary (the section on "supernurse" had me laughing out loud) and practical advice/wisdom, in its few pages it will give you a better view of home heath nursing than thousand page traditional text books full of empty platitudes written in "nurse-ese". Well worth the price. I hope the author writes more. My only complaint is that it wasn't ten times longer.
This is a great explanation of what a case worker in the field does. It is light reading and to the point. Loved the description of each patient type and caregiver type. I agree you either love this kind of job or you hate it. I happen to be a Hospice Case Manager and I love my job. Well written.
Decided to get this because I start a hospice job soon and wanted to get a leg up. This has a lot of good information! My only disappointment is the mobilemedsurg.com site referred to check out for more information doesn't work. I would recommend this.
This is a basic book, as Tanya well indicates. As a hospice volunteer, I found it both interesting and helpful. It gave me a better appreciation of what home health and hospice employees must be able to handle, and the tools they must use.
I thought the author did a great job detailing out the job. I found it very helpful and practical. Great read for anyone entering the hospice field.
I liked the price. Bought it to compliment Hospice 101. Disappointed that it didn't. The writing needed edited as there are spelling and grammer errors galore. A good attempt that fell short.

I bought this book for my parents, longtime sailors who enjoyed visiting numerous lighthouses during their 25 years of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. It is a lovely book with great stories and wonderful illustrations. My only complaint is that the font chosen was a huge editorial mistake! This makes it a poor choice for an older reader (my parents are 86). I find it small even for me to read comfortably. What makes this even more frustrating is that there is about an inch of free space border surrounding the text on each page. Why in the world the editor chose to keep so much blank space on each page, instead of increasing the size of the print, is beyond me. Since the book was prime eligible TO me, but not for return, I'm keeping it. Giving it 4 stars, because it is a really good book. Deducting one for the teeny, tiny print.

I read this for lent. If I hadn't committed to reading it for 40 days I would not have finished. I have read Tozer before and enjoy what he has to say but this one didn't keep my interest.There were good portions, just not every day.
This proved to be one of the most spiritually rewarding devotionals I have used, and I’ve used dozens over the past 20 years. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is truly seeking to deepen their walk with Christ, challenge their notions of what it means to daily confess and follow Jesus, and also to set aside shallow discipleship. Tozer, as always delivers. You don’t have to wait until Lent to be blessed by this compilation.
I am enjoying this devotional each day as Easter approaches. Convicting, humbling, challenging, inspiring, teaching. Good stuff!
